There is no doubt that the traditional acoustic pianos have a great sound which is very natural and has the capacity to enthrall everyone.
But with the advent of electric pianos, also known as digital pianos, these traditional pianos are now being relegated in to oblivion because of the technical superiority and the ease of operation.
There are many features in modern instruments that are not there in the old instruments.
This is the reason why electric pianos are fast becoming popular and are currently the preferred choice of players the world over.
They are available for a fraction of the cost of acoustic pianos, so unless you are ready to invest a huge sum, it is prudent to go for digital pianos.
They are also small in size, and weigh only a fraction when compared with the traditional acoustic pianos.
With people having a space crunch in their homes, it is natural that they are opting for these electric pianos.
Until now the purists talked about the superiority in sound of the acoustic pianos, but with constant up gradation and technological innovations, sound from the digital pianos is today almost as good as that of traditional pianos.
Then there is the feature of recording of what you play on the instrument, and then even edit and save it for future use.
This is something that is not there on the acoustic pianos.
Being small in size, it is very easy to transport the digital piano, whereas acoustic pianos remain stationery where they are installed as they are too wieldy.
You can carry your electric instrument in your hand as it can be further dissembled into parts and then reassembled at a place where you need to give your performance.
Digital pianos have no strings, so they do not need to be tuned which is the case with traditional pianos and this is a recurring problem as the strings become loose and tuning has to be done every year or so.
This means that there are virtually no expenses involved in the upkeep and maintenance of an electric piano whereas these expenses remain in an acoustic piano.
Though traditional pianos still continue to be used in large concert halls, the electric pianos have come as a blessing to parents who want their kids to learn to play piano.
Not only are they cheaper and smaller, they can also be played with headphones instead of out loud.
In addition the digital piano offers more creativity and other facilities which have made then so popular among the masses.
