    • 1). Turn your HP off and remove the power cable if it's connected. Close the computer screen and turn the laptop upside down.

    • 2). Unplug the rectangular battery from its bay on the underside of the computer. Three screws will now be exposed in the battery bay. These screws secure the keyboard frame to the computer.

    • 3). Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the three screws from the battery bay.

    • 4). Turn the computer right-side up and open the screen so that you have full access to the keyboard.

    • 5). Insert the tip of your screwdriver in the seam where the end of the rectangular keyboard frame (located just above the keyboard) meets the side of the computer. Pop the frame up and remove it from the computer.

    • 6). Lift the keyboard up from the top to expose the black ribbon cable to the bottom of the computer. This is the keyboard ribbon cable.

    • 7). Make sure the ribbon cable is secure in its port on the motherboard. If not, unplug the ribbon cable and plug it back in, making sure it is secure in the port.

    • 8). Fit the keyboard back over the computer and replace the frame and screws. You're keyboard should now be fixed.
