• Lockers should contain items that you do not want to carry back and forth each day. Coats, umbrellas, books and lunches can be stored in lockers during the day and taken home in the evening. Toiletries and other grooming products are good to keep in lockers, in case you forget to brush your teeth or put on deodorant that morning. Combs and brushes as well as lipstick or other cosmetic items are good to have on hand in lockers, as well as a mirror. • There are several types of lockers. The typical school locker is generally made from metal and is locked with a combination type lock. These are also used in places of business, when it is essential to store uniforms, boots, toolboxes or other items. There are also specialty lockers that can be used to store guns or placed in banks as safety deposit boxes. Lockers in gyms can be made of a mesh material, which allows the contents of the locker to dry more readily.

• While the word "locker" conjures up an image of the tall metal lockers found in many schools, a locker is any container capable of being locked with a lock and key or a combination lock. Thus, footlockers, jewelery boxes and safes can also be considered lockers.
  
  

Considerations

• Many schools are beginning to remove lockers because of the chance of students bringing contraband onto school grounds. Lockers have been removed from many airports and bus stations due to the danger of someone planting an explosive device within one.

• While lockers are generally safe places to keep things because they require a combination or a key to enter them, they can still be opened by school or work officials, or may even be opened by savvy criminals. Thus, it is important to not keep anything too valuable inside.
