Lawn Problems & Ant Hills
- Ants become a nuisance when they build hills in the lawn. Depending on the species of ants, these hills vary in height. The mound building ants of the Eastern U.S. could create mounds that reach several feet in height.
- Ant hills contain granulated soil that ants bring from the nest below. They make lawns unsightly, cause uneven surfaces and large ones could smother surrounding grass.
- You can rake ant hills until they are flat, especially in wet spring weather when ants carry out nesting activities. You can also apply insecticide on ant hills by sprinkling insecticide granules or pouring liquid insecticide on the hills.
