Primary Extra-nodal Lymphoma of the Urinary Bladder
Primary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the urinary bladder is rare. Only a few cases have been reported. We report the case of a woman with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of urinary bladder and review the literature.

Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas account for approximately 4% to 5% of all malignancies, with an expected incidence of 56,800 cases in the United States in 1999. Unlike Hodgkin's disease, which has a predictable pattern of progression from one nodal area to the next, non-Hodgkin's lymphomas can appear as nodal or primary extra-nodal disease. Primary extra-nodal lymphomas account for 25% to 35% of all non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, stomach, skin, and small intestine being the most common sites.

Autopsy studies indicate that secondary involvement of the urinary bladder by lymphomas originating elsewhere may occur in between 3% to 13% of cases. Primary extra-nodal lymphoma of the urinary bladder is, however, rare. Only 56 cases have been reported since it was first described in 1885 by Eve and Chaffey.
