    Fund for Teacher Foundation

    • The Fund for Teacher Foundation is an exclusive foundation that devotes its efforts and resources by appreciating and offering opportunities for the revitalization of exceptional teachers. The grants go directly to teachers based on the professional development opportunities for their own careers. Award amounts vary according to the merits of each applicant and the availability of funds. Teachers may ask for fund allocation for specific programs they are working on. Individual teachers can receive up to $5,000 and teams of teachers may receive up to $7,500.

    Elgin Heinz Outstanding Teacher Award

    • The United States-Japan Foundation has a program known as the Elgin Heinz Outstanding Teacher Award grant. Created in 2001, this grant recognizes mentors who support the collaboration between American and Japanese citizens. Every year, two outstanding pre-college teachers who belong to the Humanities and Japanese language categories receive this grant as an award for their work. The grant includes a certificate, monetary assistance worth $2,500 and an additional $5,000 for project funds. The grants bear the name of the outstanding teacher Elgin Heinz, born in China, who attended the University of California at Berkeley. Elgin Heinz graduated with degrees in Philosophy and Public Speaking and earned another degree in History from the San Francisco State University. The award is open to full-time K-12 classroom teachers. Applications must include name, contact details and schools where the candidate teaches. The application deadline is in February of each year.

    Shell Science Teaching Award

    • The Shell Science Teaching Award is a joint project that includes the National Science Teachers Association and the Shell Oil Company. It recognizes the achievements of classroom teachers (Grade K-12) who have an outstanding history. According to the NSTA and the Shell Oil Company, only teachers who make a significant and positive impression on their students, the school and the community by way of commendable teaching in science subjects are eligible to receive this grant. The recipient of the award receives $10,000 plus a paid trip to the NSTA Conference on Science Education. One requirement is that the teacher must have at least eight years of experience in teaching science and be a teacher of a U.S. or Canadian school or the Department of Defense Colleges.

    Presidential Award

    • The National Science Foundation for the White House administers the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching Grant. The National Science Foundation offers this grant once a year to pre-college-level teachers of science and mathematics from all over the country. A panel consisting of renowned scientists, mathematicians and educators chooses the eligible candidate, after a state-level initial screening process occurs. The grants go alternately to science and math mentors in Grades K through six or those in Grades seven through 12 .
