How to Fix the Drag so a Surf Fishing Reel Works
- 1). Determine the drag setting for the line. Drag should be 25% of breaking strength. For example, 10 pound test at 25% would equal 2.5 pounds of drag.
- 2). Tie the digital scale to a sturdy object or have someone hold it for you. Tie the line to the hook on the scale using an improved cinch knot (see the Reference Section).
- 3). Hold the rod at a 45-degree angle and pull down on the line until the line begins to slip. Note the reading on the display of the digital scale.
- 4). Tighten or loosen the drag to reach the proper drag determined in Step 1. The drag is usually on the top or rear of the reel.
