Oregon features a network of hiking clubs that hosts events at regional rivers, forests and parks. Hikers can use trails along the Willamette River and Hood River to view pristine waterways. The federal government maintains hiking trails through Crater Lake National Park and 13 national forests. The foothills of Mount Hood provide the ultimate challenge to advanced hikers. Hiking clubs offer various membership levels and ongoing events to accommodate outdoor enthusiasts. - The Obsidians hosts daily hikes and extended trips for as little as $5 per hike as of September 2010. This outdoor club offers a range of hikes ranging from easy five-mile jaunts to difficult hikes over ten miles. Hikers can participate in extended camping trips scheduled throughout the year to Crater Lake, California and Washington. The Obsidians Lounge is used for weekly potlucks where participants listen to presentations about international hikes and conservation. Club members work with the City of Eugene during weekly work details to maintain the Ridgeline Trails.

obsidians.org - Friends of the Columbia Gorge offer memberships starting from $35 per year as of September 2010. Members can participate in daily hikes along the Columbia River Gorge. The Clausen Youth Education Program invites school groups and families to learn about conservation as well as outdoor sports. The monthly events calendar features film presentations, slide shows and volunteer opportunities with other outdoor clubs. This Oregon hiking club is involved in conserving the gorge through fundraising and letter-writing campaigns. Friends of the Columbia Gorge manage 750 acres along the river as part of its Land Trust.

Every hiker is asked to complete a timed walk at the four-mile Cole Road path to assess endurance level. This club features organized hikes five days a week at Opal Creek and Silver Falls. Members can earn a free U.S. Forest Service Northwest Trail Pass by working two complete days of trail maintenance. The Chemeketans host a two-week excursion each year at parks in Idaho, Washington and Oregon.

Hikers can participate in morning and evening walks through Forest Park every week. Monthly beach hikes along Cape Arago allow members to view the Pacific Ocean. Trails Club of Oregon offers hike and dine events at regional destinations like the Lower Salmon River. The club hosts an annual awards show that celebrates the best new hiker as well as the hiker with the most miles.
