Instruction to Install a Solenoid on a Hunter Sprinkler System
- 1). Switch power from the old solenoid to the new solenoid. Cut one wire to the old solenoid, remove 1/2 inch of insulation from the end using the appropriate slot on the wire strippers, and twist it to the end of one of the wires on the new solenoid. Secure this connection by twisting a wire nut onto it. Repeat with the other wire.
- 2). Remove the old solenoid by twisting it counter-clockwise until it pulls free. If water spurts out from the valve, don't worry: that's normal.
- 3). Insert the new solenoid into the appropriate socket on the valve and turn it clockwise until it is firm. Solenoids usually have a plastic stop manufactured onto the bottom to prevent over-tightening.
