Read on to learn a few highly effective vocal warmup exercises.

These exercises will warm up the voice, and get the singing muscles functioning correctly.

It's very important to practice vocal exercises that encourage correct vocal technique. When your technique is good, you will be able to:
  • Sing with a very large vocal range
  • Have excellent tone quality
  • Sing with a completely "free" voice---no vocal strain at all

This vocal warmup exercise will improve your voice in all these areas, and loosen your voice so you are ready to take to the stage!

The name of the exercises is: The Lip Roll.

Here's how you do this vocal warmup exercise.

1. Place one hand on each cheek. Feel for where the edge of your mouth is on either side. Now move each hand an inch sideways, so if you push inwards, you can feel where your teeth meet.

2. Now, blow through your mouth as you would at the end of a long hard day! Let your lips flap together so they make a strange noise, like the sound a horse would make.

Got it so far? If not, don't worry too much… in a moment I'll show you where you can view a free video that demonstrates this very exercise…

3. Once you know how to make your lips flap, and still holding your skin back on each cheek, you need to make a dopey "Ahhh" sound. When you do this, your lips will flap and it will sound like you are saying the letter "B" many times in succession.

"BBBBBBBBBRRRRRRRR!"

Once you are doing this correctly, you can use this sound on any scale or song you like. This exercise is tremendous at dissolving vocal tension, and increasing vocal range.
