How to Fill Out an Economic Hardship Deferment Loan
- 1). Place the first page of the paper-based Economic Hardship Deferment Request form on the table or open the portable document format (PDF) version of the form on your computer screen. The heading "Section 1: Borrower Identification" appears at the top of the first page. Write or type in your personal information in this section.
- 2). Stay on the first page and move to "Section 2: Deferment Request." Enter the date on which the deferment will begin in the area of the first bullet mark. Use the following format: "01-15-2011." This date varies based on your personal reason for requesting a deferment. For example, if you no longer are enrolled in school and loan payments are set to resume on a specified date due to this reason, consider inputting that date as the beginning date.
- 3). Move down to the "Check One" area in Section 2. Carefully read each of the six available reasons that you can choose for requesting a deferment. Follow the instructions to correctly select that option. Make sure the check mark is clearly written or typed.
- 4). Move to the section titled "Section 3: Borrower Understandings and Certifications" at the bottom of the first page. Read and decide if you want to check the box under the first square bullet in this section, which pertains to making interest payments on unsubsidized loans. Sign your name and date in the "Borrower's Signature" section. If you are filling out the form on the computer, print out the partially completed form and use a pen to put your official signature on the paper form.
- 5). Move to Section 7, on Page 3 of the form. The source of your deferment form, such as a bank or loan servicer, automatically prints the return mailing address in this section. Write or type the address on your envelope. Mail the form with proper postage.
