How to Change Weedeater Strings

    • 1). Make sure the weed eater is off. If your device plugs in, be sure it is unplugged before making any adjustments. If your weed eater is gas-powered, make sure it is switched to "Stop" and pull the contact wire from the spark plug before beginning.

    • 2). Set the weed eater down with the string side up. Some weed eaters have a screw in the center of the string casing. If your model does, remove the screw on the casing by turning in a counterclockwise direction until it disconnects. Otherwise, simply unscrew the cap on the casing with your hand.

    • 3). Remove the old string by pulling it out from its casing.

    • 4). Feed the new string into the casing so that it coils inside. Feed the string in the direction of any arrows that appear on the casing until the casing is adequately full.

    • 5). Clip the string with scissors so that 2 inches of string is left exposed.

    • 6). Twist the string casing back on the weed eater in a clockwise direction until it is hand tight. If your model secures with a screw, replace the casing and tighten the screw and in a clockwise direction until tight.

    • 7). Reconnect the contact wire, or plug in your weed eater before use.
