How to Use an LCD Projector With a Laptop
- 1
DVI (top) and VGA (bottom) ports
Determine whether the projector has a DVI (digital video interface) or VGA (video graphics array) input. If there is a cable included with the projector, use it, otherwise a standard DVI or VGA cable will work fine. - 2
Some Mac laptops require an adapter.
Connect the projector to the computer with the cable, making sure both units are powered down. Depending on your laptop, you will either a have DVI or VGA port, but some laptops (certain Macintosh models, for example) require an adapter to connect to an external monitor or projector. - 3). Power on the projector and the computer, and then open the display settings on the laptop. On a Windows machine, it can be found in the Control Panel. On a Macintosh laptop, the Displays settings are in the System Preferences.
- 4
Make sure the projector and monitor on the laptop are "mirrored," meaning that they are displaying the same image. Trying to deliver a presentation while looking at the large screen can be disorienting, particularly to someone who isn't accustomed to delivering presentations while manipulating a keyboard and mouse. - 5). Tweak the display preferences to achieve the optimal settings for your particular setup. This includes the resolution settings, the brightness/contrast levels and desktop picture.
