  Some fathers can be difficult to shop for during the holidays, but that just makes it all the more special when you find him the perfect gift. If you take a bit of extra time to pick out a Christmas present tailored to his interests, he'll understand how much thought you put into it and appreciate the gesture.
  
  

Electronics

• According to a survey conducted by Ebay in 2008, electronics are among the most wished-for items at Christmas. If your Dad enjoys technology, consider getting him a Blu-ray player, flat-screen television, laptop, cell phone or portable reader. If the price is more than you planned on spending, ask siblings or other family members to go in on it with you. Check Black Friday sales; stores commonly slash prices on electronics immediately after Thanksgiving, so if you shop early you may be able to save money.
  
  

Car Detailing

• Auto detailing is common practice at car dealerships to prepare used cars for sale. When a car is detailed, small imperfections in the body like scratches and dings are repaired. Carpet stains in the interior are treated and removed when possible, and the inside of the car is washed and freshened. Older, time-worn vehicles generally benefit the most from detailing. Gift certificates for detailing services can be purchased at many auto body shops, and make a nice gift for a father with a car that could use some polishing.
  
  

Event Tickets

• If your father has a favorite band, sports team or comedian, pick him up a pair of tickets to see them live. Look for a date and time that would work with his schedule and get two good seats at the venue. If it's an event that you're interested in as well, you might suggest that you go together and make the present a fun day out for the two of you.
  
  

Upgrade His Vacation

• If your father has an upcoming vacation planned, he might appreciate an unexpected upgrade on one or more elements of his trip. You could call his hotel and pay for the difference between a standard room and a suite, or upgrade his rental car from a compact to a luxury vehicle. A flight upgrade from economy to first class would be a nice surprise, but may be difficult to arrange directly through his airline due to privacy concerns.
