Magazine Storage Ideas
- The problem with magazines is that they tend to get left all around the house. Easy access to your magazines must be combined with safekeeping so they won't get damaged and convenience to assure you will use the storage space. One of the most important things to keep in mind is where you read your magazines. Your storage space should not be positioned so you have to cross the house to retrieve or dispose of your reading material.
- If you do most of your magazine reading at night in bed, then you should consider investing in a slanted headboard for your bed. Essentially, this is a headboard that is slanted at a 45-degree angle against which you can rest your pillow and read. The key component is that the angled board opens up to reveal storage space in which you can keep your magazines. When you begin to drift off to sleep, just open up the headboard, place the magazine inside, then go to sleep.
- Many people do their magazine reading in what they call "the library," which is actually a room built for another purpose. If you like to read in the bathroom and don't want a messy collection of magazines haphazardly strewn across a small table, then you might think about installing tilted shelving. The tilting of the shelving serves the purpose of keeping the magazines from sliding off. An additional benefit of keeping your bathroom reading materials in good order on a tilted shelf is that the colors and shapes actually provide a sense of décor and design to what can often be the drabbest room in the house.
- Those who have massive collections of magazines that go back for years or even decades can find themselves overwhelmed. Many times, the magazines head straight for the garage where they are not only exposed to damage, but can't even be enjoyed for purely aesthetic reasons. If you have a big collection of magazines that you like to show off and want to keep in some semblance of order, install shelving about a foot beneath the ceiling and you can conceivably keep decades of monthly magazines on full display for you to enjoy and easily find as needed. You even have the option of storing the magazines horizontally or vertically.
