How to Paint Plaid Walls
- 1). Paint the walls with whatever background color you want. This will be the base color of the stripes.
- 2). Use a ruler and a pencil to make guides for your horizontal lines. Make marks at the same interval on both sides of the wall. For example, you could make marks at 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches from the ground on the left side, then make the same marks on the right side.
- 3). Draw horizontal lines with a pencil. Have two helpers hold a straight edge to the first mark on each side and trace along it with a pencil. Repeat until you have drawn as many horizontal lines as you need.
- 4). Draw your vertical lines. Make regular marks near the baseboard and at the ceiling. Stretch a tape measure between the two sets of marks and draw your vertical lines.
- 5). Tape painters tape along the lines. Be sure to get it as straight as possible.
- 6). Paint alternating squares in two different colors. Use colors that are different from your base color. Give the paint time to dry.
- 7). Remove the vertical tape. Paint a translucent glaze over every other horizontal section. Then, remove the horizontal tape.
