    • 1). Turn off the laptop and unplug its power cord from the wall outlet. Remove the battery from its dock under the laptop by unlocking its plastic casing. Keep the battery and the cord at a safe distance while you work on the laptop.

    • 2). Locate and remove the screws attaching the plastic frame to the LCD panel. Depending on manufacturer and model, there may be two to six screws at different points around the screen; on some laptops, the screws may be on the sides of the panel. Raise the small rubber pads (if any) concealing the screws with a flat-ended object to expose the screws underneath. Store the rubber pads and screws in a small container at a safe distance.

    • 3). Pull the frame away. Once all the screws have been removed, the frame is free from any attachments to the laptop body, and can be maneuvered to dislodge it. Place a finger between the frame and the screen at the bottom-center, and probe all around the edge of the frame to loosen it. Feel with your finger to locate and undo any locking mechanism, such as clips, that may be holding the frame in place. Once the edges are freed, gently pull the frame away to expose the bare LCD panel in its metallic frame.

    • 4). Detach the video cable, a thin ribbon taped to the back of the screen that connects the LCD panel to the main body of the laptop. Remove the tape, stick it on a clean surface temporarily, and disconnect it from its connector in the LCD.

    • 5). Detach the power cable connecting the screen to a small green board known as the inverter. Locate the connector and disconnect it from the screen.

    • 6). Remove the damaged LCD panel. Locate and undo small screws attaching the screen to its metal frame. Loosen the panel from its frame by gently moving the screen from side to side. Slide the screen out, taking care not to distort the frame or scratch any of the internal components.

    • 7). Install the new LCD screen. Slide it into the metal frame and put the screws on once it is all the way in. Reconnect the video cable and the power cable. Tilt the screen forward and tape the video cable to the back of the panel, exactly as it was on the old screen.

    • 8). Reassemble the laptop. Put the plastic frame back on with steady hands, making sure not to scratch the new screen. Lock the clips (if any) and firmly attach the frame with screws and put the rubber pads back on. Look for any leftover pieces.
