How Can I Get Rid of Moles in My Yard?

    Natural Deterrent

    • Two human smells are a natural deterrent to pesky moles---hair and urine. To choose the so-called less disgusting route, pull some hair from a hair brush if you're not ready for an impromptu hair cut. Get a large wad of hair and stick it down each hole entrance. Just keeping brushing your hair to get more loose hairs to put down the holes.

Similar to a urine test, urinate into a small, disposable container. Pour about 2 tbsp. of urine at each tunnel entrance. The smell of humans near will make the moles leave, as moles rely strongly on their sense of smell.

    Traps

    • Though less humane, traps are the most effective form of ridding a lawn of moles. Purchase body traps at any lawn and garden store, and place them at the tunnel entrances. Check traps daily. On average, there are about one to two moles per quarter-acre. Don't expect a large number in your yard.

NOTE: These traps will kill the moles, so don't use if you do not wish the moles to die.

    Keeping Them Away

    • After the moles have been run off or killed, fill in the tunnels by rushing them with water and stomping on top of the formerly infested area. Using large or steel-toed boots is very effective. This will make sure that no moles will be able to find pre-made tunnels to easily move into.
