Frontline Flea Prevention
- According to Drs. Foster and Smith, Frontline prevents flea infestation by killing adult fleas. The Plus version also blocks the development of flea eggs and larvae because it contains an insect growth regulator (see Resources).
- According to the Flea Wars website, Frontline is applied by popping the container open and squeezing it out in an area between the animal's shoulder blades. The fur should be parted to allow deep penetration (see Resources).
- Frontline is waterproof, which allows it to be used on dogs that enjoying swimming or pets that are bathed regularly. Besides killing fleas, it also eliminates ticks, which protects the animal from lyme disease.
- Frontline prevents fleas for 1 month, after which it must be reapplied. According to the manufacturer, it kills up to 100 percent of ticks within 2 days.
- According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), counterfeiters will sometimes attempt to sell counterfeit versions of Frontline. Consumers should be aware of this problem and inspect the box and product to make sure it looks genuine (see Resources).
