Adhesion Contracts - How Many Have You Signed?

103 60
Hi guys, I know many of us don't dig into the things that we sign that are above the dotted line in black and white but we really should it could affect your life in more ways than one.
Contract of adhesion - a contract that heavily restricts one party while leaving the other free (as some standard form printed contracts); implies inequality in bargaining power.
This kind of contract is so imbalanced in the favor of one party that is basically states for example: A single mother living in a shoddy apartment that has electrical problems can't move and the landlord will not fix anything, she is at his mercy because there is no money to take him to court and the contract is written in his favor so if she has no proof the case will be decided in the landlords favor.
Common types of adhesion contracts that you have in your possession right now are insurance policies, rental or mortgage agreements, tickets to sports or entertainment events.
No one ever even thinks about this but who can bargain with the insurance company for the true rate that you should be paying for your premium, you either take the rate or get a ticket for not having insurance.
So the point is if you have the time to even look up the meaning of everything in a law dictionary or go through the paperwork with the local law school students please use your resources so that corporations will not profit off of your trust and kindness.
I hope this helps prevent someone from a costly situation in the future and here is a link that shows a Michigan adhesion contract that went to court http://www.
