When Does a Civil War Require Intervention - The Syrian Case Study
No Fly Zone - Here We Go Again! Have the issues in Syria now gotten out of control here in October of 2012 just a few weeks before the election - is this going to be the Obama October surprise? Is NATO, the Arab League, the UN, and the US all going to finally do something about the Syrian slaughter (other than mere covert operations of rebel weapon smuggling), with the number dead now estimating in the 30,000 range and increasing daily, more than 1000 per week? Well, it looks like the issues with Syria (and Iran too it seems) are coming to a head rather fast, either the rebels are defeated within a week, not more than two, or there will be serious talk of doing something about it now.
Let's discuss this some more.
You see, there was a horrible article on MSNBC on October 14, 2012 titled; "Extremely dangerous: Assad forces use cluster bombs as rebels gain, rights group says," by NBC News staff and wire reports which stated; "Syrian government forces have dropped Soviet-made cluster bombs over civilian areas in the past week as they battle to push back rebel gains," and "The bombs were dropped from planes and helicopters," and "If we needed any further proof of the Syrian government's complete disregard for the lives of its own citizens, its own children, well, here it is.
Because we know now that the government is using cluster munitions in populated areas," Well, as a quasi-military analyst for a think tank operating online, my first reaction was; - Are these reports legitimate? - If so, "oh my god" things just took a turn for the worst.
- Now we know why Turkey stopped the radar system in route Now then, maybe you are not familiar with cluster munitions but you might want to Google It or go to WikiPedia and see just how wicked such weapons are, it's like Napalm squared.
Okay so, what does all this mean you ask? It means since there is now a case precedence for intervention after NATO in Libya, now we have a reason to go in and institute a no fly-zone.
Is the Obama Administration's foreign policy unraveling? Vice President Joe Biden says that is "malarkey" and yet, one perhaps could argue otherwise with each and every day moving forward now.
The interesting thing is that President Bush warned us of the Axis of Evil, which he labeled as Iraq, Iran, and North Korea.
Later, John Bolton added Libya and Syria.
Believe me when I tell you they were absolutely correct, and yet they were given a lot of grief in the media in the past when they explained this to the American people.
No one should be surprised at what's happening in Syria, what happened in Libya, or the entire Arab Spring for that matter, nor is any of it really over.
No one should be surprised that Russia is involved with Syria and Iran.
In fact, no one should be surprised that Iran is flying weapons and personnel over Iraqi aerospace into Syria even though the Iraqi Air Force is being trained by the US government and flies F-16s.
For the Obama Administration to claim they have everything under control, well they must have a very interesting definition of what "control" means if they really believe that.
Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it at your earliest possible convenience because time is wasting, and we are getting close to the 11th hour.
