- 1). Turn off the main water supply valve to the house.
- 2). Attach threaded iron pipe to your outdoor propane tank. Run the pipe from your propane tank to the water heater.
- 3). Unscrew the pipe union fitting. Thread the smaller fitting from the union fitting onto the threaded iron pipe terminating just below the water heater. Thread the larger fitting from the union fitting onto the gas line pipe coming out of the water heater. Use a pipe wrench the connect the two ends of the union pipe fitting. Rotate the union fitting clockwise to securely tighten the fitting. Your propane tank is now connected to your propane water heater.
