How to Paint Brass Faucets

    • 1). Spray cleaner on the faucet and handles, and wipe clean to remove dirt and grime. Wipe dry with a clean rag or cloth.

    • 2). Apply painter's tape around the base of the fixture including around the base of the faucet neck, the brass plating at the bottom, and the bases of the handles. Remember to apply a piece of tape over the sink drain and the spout of the faucet.

    • 3). Lay old rags or plastic down over the sink basin and any areas you do not want painted. Tape the rags or plastic down with the painter's tape.

    • 4). Take a scouring pad or rough sandpaper and rub it all over the brass surfaces. You are sanding the surface down. Do not be alarmed if you see scratches, blemishes, and silver markings as this is normal. Make sure the surface is smooth before proceeding.

    • 5). Shake the spray paint can and point the nozzle at the faucet. Keep the nozzle a few inches away from the faucet.

    • 6). Evenly spray the faucet covering the entire brass surface. Repeat with the brass handles and the brass plating below the handles, and with the faucet neck if your sink has this plating.

    • 7). Allow the paint to dry overnight. Reapply a second coat if needed and dry once again. Spray a paint sealant over the painted surfaces and allow to air dry.

    • 8). Remove all tape and plastic to complete your project.
