Motor winders assemble and test motors and power generators, ensuring that they operate properly. In addition, they repair and replace defective parts. Many organizations nationwide perform this service. In addition, there are professional motor winding associations that provide professional development and support to firms that obtain membership. - Headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, the Electrical Apparatus Service Association is an international trade organization that boasts a membership of more than 2,100 electromechanical sales and service companies in 58 different countries. Founded in 1933 in response to the National Recovery Act as the National Industrial Service Association, the group initially established a code of practice aimed to boost the national economy. In 1935, however, both the codes and the National Recovery Act were declared unconstitutional. Instead of disbanding, the organization moved forward with the goal of providing networking and business development opportunity to those in the industry.
There are four types of membership available to those who wish to belong to the Electrical Apparatus Service Association: active, associate, allied, and privileged. Active membership is open to all organizations that "sell, service and repair electrical, electronic and/or mechanical apparatus." Associate membership consists of "manufacturers and suppliers of equipment, parts, services and materials used, serviced or sold by active members." The organization's allied members are "organizations such as utilities, regulatory agencies, consultants, design firms, energy service companies, research centers, national laboratories, public interest organizations, and trade and professional associations." Finally, privileged members are those who "have rendered service" to the organization and wish to remain involved.
