How to Dispose Fluorescent Lights

104 27
    • 1). Remove any burned-out or otherwise unwanted CFL bulbs from light fixtures. Do this carefully, holding the base of the bulb rather than the glass body.

    • 2). Place the CFLs into a container or bag where they cannot break. Place them into an airtight box or plastic bag so that if any breakage occurs, the hazardous contents cannot be released.

    • 3). Search the Internet to find what options are available for CFL disposal or recycling in your area. Agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or Earth911 have information available to find local options.

    • 4). Choose where you will take your bulbs based on your research. You can take them to local sanitation facilities or major retailers who participate in CFL recycling.

    • 5). Take your CFL bulbs to the location you have selected, and drop them off. Once you arrive, an employee can tell you any specifics about their recycling procedures.
