    • 1). Place the cake on the Wilton cake dividing mat, lining the center of the cake with the center of the mat.

    • 2). Using the numbers on the outer ridge of the mat, locate the numbers that correspond with the size of the cake. For example, when decorating a 12-inch cake, locate the number 12 listed on the outer ridge. Multiple numbers will be listed at some points on the mat; locate each number.

    • 3). Locate a corresponding number on the mat and follow the line next to it that goes toward the center of the cake.

    • 4). Press a toothpick gently into the fondant where each number lines up with the cake so that a small depression is made in the fondant but the fondant is not broken.

    • 5). Use the depressions in the cake to guide the placement of the repeatable pattern.
