When learning how to make soy candles, it is best to remember that it is significantly easier to make them using containers instead of a free-standing model.
To make a soy candle, a combination of wax, dye and fragrance should be used.
When done correctly, making soy candles can be an extremely rewarding pastime.
It is much easier to learn how to make soy candles than it is to make a paraffin equivalent.
Because soybean wax cleans up easily with hot soapy water and doesn't leave an oily residue, utensils used in the process can be safely put into your dishwasher for cleaning.
The raw materials needed to make soy candles are easy to find on the internet or in hobby shops.
To make your own candles, the following ingredients should be used to produce the best results:
  • 1lb flaked soy wax.
  • 1oz fragranced oil
  • Wax dye.
  • 1 HTP-105 cotton wick.
  • 1 Mason Jar
Although soy wax can be found in both flaked and block form, the flaked version is much easier to use.
You may have a favourite fragrance, or you may feel like being experimental and try mixing several fragrances together to produce your own unique scented candle.
It is best to purchase wicks that come attached to a metal disk.
Remember that you'll need a thicker wick if you're going to produce a candle with a wide diameter   Now we're familiar with the ingredients needed in learning how to make soy candles, it's now simply a question of making one!   Start by placing the flaked soy wax in a pan and completely melt using a medium heat.
Once melted, remove the wax from the source of heat and add the fragrance.
Stir the fragrance in until it has been completely absorbed by the melted soy wax.
The wax dye, should you choose to use any, can also be added at this stage and should also be stirred in thoroughly using the recommendations on the label.
The melted mixture can now be poured into the Mason jar or any other suitable container and the wick must be positioned in the centre.
To hold the wick in position, use a pencil or a clothespin to stop it from falling to the side of the jar.
Leave the wax to turn solid before trimming the wick back to the desired length using scissors.
The finished candle can now be lit and enjoyed.
