The Face of Jesus

103 22
Has anyone ever seen the face of Jesus? I have recently taken an interest in the amount of research as being reported on the history channel about various universities, archeological studies and various computer programs that have tried to recreate the face of Jesus.
It looks like the "shroud of Turin" has been the latest subject of an intensive effort to recreate the face of Jesus.
We have paintings and various icons form different parts of the world.
But, to date we do not know the true face of Jesus.
The recent CBC documentary on Mount Athos is a reflection on the basis of this article.
All though we have no pictures of Jesus, we do have many depictions.
That is the image that one can imagine transpired onto canvas.
Over the centuries, many renowned artists have placed their brush to the oil and upon the canvas to illustrate their personal feelings and vision of what Jesus looks like.
We have ancient statures of many famous roman and Greek philosophers.
But no actual pictures of Jesus.
So, perhaps there might be a lesson or some reason to wonder, why.
I have my own thoughts on this wonderful subject, and you don't have to agree with me.
But, having gone through the tragedy of losing my wife of thirty-two (32) years to stage four adeo-carcinoma of the lungs, I have experienced firsthand looking into the face of death and what might be beyond.
After watching with great interest the history channel program on the interest in the face of Jesus, I had a thought.
Maybe, it was a plan from the beginning that the face of Jesus could never be recreated.
They surely tried to transfer the image of the face from the "Shroud of Turin".
They were very supportive of their efforts, but did the end result show a picture of Jesus? No, not at all.
It was an image that most agreed could be the image of Jesus.
My thoughts, and no one has to accept them as coming from an old man, I can only relate my thoughts and feelings on this subject.
So, here is what I think.
I think that the face of Jesus is all around us, but we just are not aware of it.
Just look into the eyes of anyone that has a relationship with God.
The look into their eyes is one of tranquility and happiness.
Look into the eyes of someone on their death bed that is at peace.
Their eyes seem to be the eyes of Jesus.
Anyone who has experienced a tragedy in their life, whether it was medical, financial, and emotional or some other reason, these folks have been faced with challenges in life.
Just take a couple of minutes out of your life and when you are alone, look into the mirror and ask yourself, am I happy with myself? This is not an effort to drive you to church and amend your ways.
You are your own judge of your actions.
If, you are proud of yourself, you will see a very pleasant set of eyes, beaming at you in the mirror.
In all my years, I always see a certain look of peace on folks when they are leaving a church service.
I watch with great interest the eyes of the protestors around the world.
Television, cameras and phone cameras have a way of being right in the middle of the event and depicting the eyes of the protestors.
I have yet to see anything other than, excitement, anger and fear in those millions of eyes.
Why? I don't know the answer, but I do have a choice what to look for.
I prefer to look into the eyes of those that communicate in some fashion with a higher being.
I really don't care if you are a Roman Catholic, Buddhist, Presbyterian, Muslim or whatever your religion is.
I just know that happiness is reflected to the world through your eyes.
