Organic Produce: Is It Worth the Cost?
When you take a trip to the grocery store, you are probably keeping three things in mind: the taste of the food you are buying, the amount of food you are getting, and the cost of the food in question. And when you look at produce, it might seem like all these things add up to direct you to the fact that "conventional" produce is a far better purchase than organic produce, as each piece of produce is larger, and the cost is lower; before you head to the grocery store again, however, there are some things you should know about the comparison of "organic" vs "conventional" produce!
Eating organic food is better for your body: When you purchase non-organic food, you are buying foods that have been treated with pesticides and therefore most likely have neurotoxins that are damaging to nerve and brain cells; non-organic food may be prettier (and may be a whole lot bigger), but in this case that beauty is only skin deep! It will be much better for you to eat foods that are natural - that have not been treated with pesticides or injected with hormones - especially when you think about the fact that our bodies are, of course, "natural" as well!
Organic food is higher in nutrients: If you are buying produce, you expect to be buying food full of nutritional value, but if you're not buying organic produce, you are not receiving the full nutritional value; organic food is higher in vitamin C, antioxidants and minerals - which are all things that your body needs - and this means you will actually be able to get more nutrition while eating less food.
If buying organic food for your own benefit is not reason enough, then perhaps do it for your children: Organic food helps preserve the integrity of the soil and protects the topsoil from degenerating, which means that the soil will be around for future generations to plant their produce as well; otherwise, we will be putting our children in a position where they will be stuck with an eroding planet, and with a real mess on their hands that we have created.
It may seem as though it is just an apple, but which apple you choose to buy has ramifications down the road; buying organic is the most friendly to the environment and to your body! It is not worth it to make cheaper buying decisions now and have to pay the price later, so start looking into purchasing organic food for you and your family; in the future, you will be happy you did - and further down the road, your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will be happy you did!
